It seemed a bit uncoming of a Prime Minister of a country like Modi to work like a local leader and campaign for a regional Assembly poll. Until the exit polls came out, Modi and his team didn’t even understand that by giving utter importance to Delhi Assembly polls and dedicating all the focus towards elections, they have been making the polls more a referendum on Modi’s capabilities.
Modi, who has recently turned the master of promoting himself, didn’t seem to strike the right chord with the educated voters who can easily understand the strategy behind marketing. First time, marketing might help. But public is noticing Modi since his historical win in Lok Sabha elections and the fresh verdict in Delhi polls only shows that just publicity isn’t going to work anymore. People wanna see him fulfilling promises.
What went wrong with Modi’s strategies? Foremost, BJP forgot that action speaks more than promises. Modi was everywhere promising overtly but ironically there was no promise of delivering what he spake. And the second one being his extreme fantasy and belief in the digital system. After coming to power, did Modi concentrate on the basic issues? Nay he was busy in projecting India in a different light to the world.
While that might work wonders in future, his negligence regarding the local issues created gaps and quite intelligently AAP tried to make use of the loopholes and turn the situation to its favour. While Modi has garnered global tag, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal concentrated only on local issues and also those which were neglected by BJP by sheer dependance of pure overt indulgence in digital media.
