Hyderabad continues to be a troubling city for disabled!According to a staggering report, Hyderabad City houses as many as five lakh disabled persons. While the city continues to be unfriendly to them despite various schemes and loud promises of the government. In a recent study, it is revealed that many government offices, hospitals, bus stations and public spaces do not have facilities that make the commutation of the disabled easy.

There are several places in the city which do not have Ramps, lifts or even offices on the ground floor to create a barrier-free environment for them. Saddest part is that their agony continues in the medical facilities too. There is a serious lack of affordable treatment to mentally-impaired patients. Governments do not care to appoint psychologists or specialists for their rehabilitation and there is also a dearth of braille literature for visually-impaired people etc.

According to the law there should be special teacjhers for differently-abled children. But there are no permanent special teacher’s post has been created till now.There are 68,979 children with special needs (CwSN) in various government schools in Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh and 616 Special Teachers are required to teach them. But there is no single Special Teacher and the very few of them present are on contractual basis.
