Why Jagan Did Not Make Amaravati Announcement?

It has been over a decade since Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated, but the state is still without a permanent capital. Chandrababu Naidu announced Amaravati in 2014, yet progress stalled due to court cases and later Jagan Mohan Reddy’s three-capital proposal.

Between 2019 and 2024, the YSR Congress plan damaged Amaravati’s development. Instead of continuing with construction, Jagan pushed the decentralisation idea. Political delays, legal battles, and lack of commitment meant Amaravati failed to move forward in a meaningful way.

Now YSR Congress has floated another plan. Sajjala Rama Krishna Reddy said Jagan will remain in Tadepalli even after 2029. He denied three capitals and called it decentralisation, adding that a mega city capital would be built between Vijayawada and Guntur.

The announcement raised doubts since it did not come from Jagan himself but from Sajjala, who never held political office. This shows how lightly the party is treating the issue, despite Amaravati being a matter of great public concern.

YSR Congress has often targeted Amaravati with propaganda. Old videos of floods are repeatedly circulated by Sakshi and Blue Media during rains. Skipping the Amaravati 2.0 program further deepened distrust, making people question the party’s real intentions once again.

If Jagan were serious, he would have apologised for stalling the project and promised genuine mega city development. Instead, the party’s approach appears like another attempt to hoodwink Krishna and Guntur districts ahead of the 2029 elections.
