The alliance between TDP and Janasena is now official. Both parties are in the process of setting up a coordination committee that will chalk out joint programs and also decide on seat-sharing.
All eyes are on the number of seats Janasena will contest and from where. These seats are very important as TDP and Janasena’s interests overlap in many constituencies.
The first such tussle will be in Tenali. Both TDP and Janasena have their senior leaders – Nadendla Manohar and Alapati Raja interested in this seat.
There are rumors in the constituency that Nadendla decided to sacrifice this seat and will be shifting to Guntur West. He believes Guntur West, a TDP stronghold will be an easy seat for him to win.
Guntur West came into existence after the delimitation. In the three elections that happened after that, TDP won two. Kanna Lakshminarayana won once on Congress ticket and he is also in TDP right now.
That means Alapati will get to retain Tenali. Survey reports favor Raja and also indicate Nadendla has had a disconnect with the constituency ever since 2014.
If this is true, it is a positive development that Janasena is being amicable and is keeping the larger goal above the self-interests. It is interesting to note that Nadendla Manohar will be the key person in the TDP-Janasena coordination committee.
