Kadiyam Srihari, MLA of Ghanpur Station and one of the 10 leaders who defected to the Congress, has revealed why he left the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
In a public statement on Friday, the former minister said he decided to quit BRS after MLC Kavitha, daughter of former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), was arrested in the Delhi liquor scam.
Kadiyam said he could not accept a Chief Minister’s daughter being jailed without even a hearing. “That’s when I made up my mind to leave,” he declared.
Interestingly, his exit came soon after Kavitha quit from the BRS herself, raising questions about the timing. Srihari further accused the Kalvakuntla family of acquiring acres of land and earning crores of rupees through the Kaleshwaram project.
He claimed that the current power struggles within BRS are all about dividing that money. “This whole panchayat is about the KCR family. The people of Telangana and the ruling Congress party shouldn’t bother about their family drama,” he added.
Kadiyam Srihari’s switch to Congress comes at a time when the BRS is facing internal turmoil. His political future, along with that of other defectors, now depends on Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
His statement is being seen as both a personal and political attack on BRS leadership during a time of uncertainty for the party.
