KCR has declined to appear before the SIT for an inquiry scheduled on Friday. The BRS chief and former Chief Minister cited municipal poll commitments as the reason for his absence.
In a letter to the SIT, KCR stated that Friday marks the last day for filing nominations for municipal elections. Due to this, he said he would be unable to attend the inquiry on the given date.
KCR suggested that the inquiry be conducted later at his Erravelli farmhouse. He added that he would fully cooperate with the investigation despite seeking a change in venue and timeline.
The former CM also pointed out that there is no legal requirement under Section 160 CRPC to conduct an inquiry at a single fixed location. He requested that future notices be sent to his Erravelli address.
Earlier, the SIT had issued notices to KCR at his Nandi Nagar residence in Banjara Hills. Police had also made bandobast arrangements for the inquiry.
However, KCR sent his response to the SIT after 8 pm on Thursday. In his letter, he noted that individuals above 65 years of age need not be questioned at a police station.
The SIT reportedly responded positively regarding the timeline requested by KCR. However, it remains unclear whether the inquiry will be held at his farmhouse.
With notices now issued to KCR, the phone tapping case appears to be nearing a crucial stage. Senior BRS leaders including Harish Rao, Santosh Rao, and KTR have already been summoned.
The SIT has also questioned victims and former officials such as Radhakishan Rao. Investigators reportedly concluded that the phone tapping was carried out at the direction of a “big man,” leading to notices being issued to KCR, who was the CM at the time.
