During the peak of the Telangana protests, political speeches were full of heat. However, behind bars, the real tension was much more personal and about two inches from KTR’s neck.

Recalling his time in jail following KCR’s famous hunger strike, KTR shared a hilarious memory that proves silence really can save your life.

After being arrested and sent to jail, KTR was offered a quick shave by another inmate. As the barber pressed a razor blade against his throat, KTR made the classic mistake of trying to make small talk and asked the man where he was from.

When the barber casually replied, “Pulivendula, sir,” KTR’s instincts kicked in immediately. Pulivendula is the famous stronghold of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Realizing he was sitting in prison during a sensitive political time, covered in shaving cream, with a sharp blade held at his throat by a man from his rival’s hometown, KTR decided it was time to be quiet.

He immediately shut his mouth, stopped trying to be friendly, and sat perfectly still until the shave was over. It turns out that sometimes the best political strategy is simply to stop talking when someone is holding a blade to your neck.
