Mega Budget for GHMC Ahead of Polls?

Ahead of the 2019 Assembly elections, Telangana Government may propose GHMC to have a Mega Budget of 13,150 crores for the financial year 2018-19. The budgetary proposal is almost double the current financial year’s budget.

This is to ensure that the civic body takes up more infrastructure projects and schemes. The state government’s flagship programme of the 2-BHK housing project at a cost of Rs 6,317 crore which is 48% of the total budget. Road Repairs, Musi Riverfront Development Corporation will cost another 750 Crore while another Rs 500 crore would be spent on city’s internal roads.

Besides the State government’s help, the corporation mobilizes funds from property tax and vacant land tax, LRS & BRS, and borrowings. GHMC would raise 1800 crore by floating bonds and taking term loans and another 3000 crores would be mobilized from internal sources for taking up various projects
