The government of India had been urging social media giant Twitter to abide by the regulations that are in place. Previously, there was a fallout between the two entities regarding Indian Covid statistics.
Now, in a new development, the government of India has ordered Twitter to take down and prevent further sharing videos of two naked women from Manipur.
This is connection with Manipur riots where rival groups have been unleashing their might on women. There are viral videos of naked Manipuri women who are being paraded by rival groups.
These videos caused a huge uproar on social media and everyone is calling out the culprits for harassing innocent women in their power fight.
In this context, the government of India has ordered Twitter and other social media platforms not to share these videos of naked women on social media.
“It is imperative for social media platforms to adhere to Indian laws as the matter is currently under investigation” the government of India told Twitter and other social media platforms.
As for the riots in Manipur, the unrest is a result of the long standing conflict related to the demand to bring Meitei community under Scheduled Tribes category.
