Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his government’s effective measures to combat drought got a special mention in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s weekly address, Mann Ki Baat. Modi heaped praises on AP government’s move to use rain guns to create artificial rain in drought-hit areas for protecting existing crop, digging farm ponds and other scientific methods to fight drought.

“Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have used technology very well to mitigate drought. People’s participation is also vital,” Mr Modi said in Mann Ki Baat on Sunday. The Chief Minister met Modi on 17th of this month and gave him a detailed presentation on the measures AP government has been employing to mitigate the impact of drought.
10 districts of the total 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh were drought affected and the area was spread over 359 mandals. The state government is taking up it as a challege to combat drought using
various scientific methods. Though a long way to go, the methods have proven to be efficient.
