No Chance Of US Green Card Via Super Fee

No Chance Of US Green Card Via Super FeeIn what could be considered a big disappointment to Indians in the US, the Senate Parliamentarian ruled against the proposal of getting a US green card by paying a ‘super fee’.

Earlier, Democrats planned to issue 8 million green cards as a part of the $3.5 trillion spending bill. Had this bill been passed, family-based immigrant sponsored by a US citizen with a priority date that is more than 2 years before could have acquired the Green Card by paying the ‘super fee’ of $2500.

An applicant without date priority could have acquired the Green Card by paying the ‘super fee’ of $1500.

The Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough opined that the bill does not meet the strict rules of what can be in the spending bill and ruled against it.

“We are deeply disappointed in this decision but the fight to provide lawful status for immigrants in budget reconciliation continues,” Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer said.
