The Polling in Municipal elections is completed. Election commission had announced that polling is peaceful by and large except for few isolated incidents. The fate of candidates of 10 Muncipal Corporations and Ward members in 145 Muncipalities are sealed in EVMs by the voters.It is estimated that 3000 Crores rupees are distributed to the voters to influence them. On an average 500 to 1000 is spent on buying a vote. Interestingly few voters in Gudivada did a dharna complaining YSR Congress distributed fake notes.
In Mandapeta Muncipality, there are instances 4000 rupees is offered to a voter to buy a vote. Money, Sarees, Liquor, Meat, Pressure Cookers, Cookware were distributed in many areas. According to the schedule, the counting was supposed to take place on April 2nd and the results were to be out on the same day. The petition to stall the results till the completion of Assembly elections is pending in high court. If the court rules in favour of the petitioner then the results will be announced after May 7th.
