The lavish palace like construction that was commissioned by previous chief minister YS Jagan in the Rushikonda area of Vizag is one of the bizarre wastages of money in the previous tenure.
The current NDA government is still clueless on how to utilise this building that was assembled on a budget of over ₹500 crore. Certain committees were formed to identify the best possible utility of this building and we appear to have arrived at some sort of consensus now.
According to the latest social media reports, the Rushikonda Palace is set to be developed as an international-standard luxury resort under the PPP model.
This decision is following a recommendation by an Andhra Pradesh cabinet sub-committee after a field inspection. It took several months for the committee to arrive at this decision, and it is likely to be a consolidated one.
A portion of the property is proposed to be opened to the public as a cultural heritage centre which surely is an interesting idea nevertheless. The final decision will be taken by the state cabinet and more details will be following the same.
One can only wonder what was Jagan thinking while building this mega construction on a budget of ₹500 crore and it should be a matter of concern for the NDA government on how to utilise this. It has been nearly 4 to 5 years since the construction of this project and not a single rupee has been generated from this.
