Sonia Gandhi Announces Retirement

Sonia Gandhi, who was once the most powerful woman in India has implied that she has hung up the boots and called it quits for politics. Her comment at the Congress plenary in Raipur clearly suggests the same.

“I’m happy that my political innings has drawn to a close with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. It has come as a turning point to the Congress party and bought the party closer to the masses” Sonia said.

The fact that Sonia said her innings concludes with Bharat Jodo Yatra is coming as an indication that she might no longer be active in the party or in national politics.

But there’s still some confusion on whether Sonia will contest from Raebarely parliament constituency for one last time in next election or leave the seat to her daughter Priyanka Gandhi.

Sonia thanked Rahul for successfully carrying out the Bharat Jodo Yatra and hoped to see Congress regain strength under Rahul’s leadership.
