In what could be a shocking incident, Tealngana Aseembly speaker Madhusudhanachari suspended 10 TDP MLAs on Friday. Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy’s casual comments on Farmers Suicides stirred Telangana Assembly on Friday. The Assembly convened on Friday two days after tabling the budget but Opposition parties disrupted the proceedings of the house demanding an apology from Pocharam for his unsympathetic attitude towards farmers or demanded the Chief Minister to remove his from the cabinet.
Pocharam stated that Farmers in Telangana not committing suicides due to agriculture but various other reasons like family problems etc. He said that Andhra media is trying to project all suicides as agriculture related and taint the image of the government. The opposition parties also stalled the proceedings of the house demanding the Speaker to take up the Power Crisis issue first.
In general, Speakers adopt wait and see policy when house is disrupted and will not resort to suspension until the last minute but shockingly, he has decided to suspend them up on the recommendation of Water Resources Minister, T.Harish Rao. Angered by the move, the suspended members staged a protest on the floor of the ground. Even the other opposition party, Congress also felt the suspension as wrong and Leader of Opposition, Jana Reddy demanded the suspension to be removed and take up the issue of Power Crisis and Farmers’ Suicides.
Telangana Assembly finally assembled after Lunch. The speaker dismissed all the adjournments proposed by Opposition parties and finally adjourned the house till Monday. He also announced that the discussion on the budget has started.
