Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao hoisted the country’s largest National flag a short while ago in Sanjeevaiah Park, Hyderabad. The height of the flagpole is 303 feet — 10 feet more than the current tallest flagpole pole in Ranchi. The 100-tonne pole made from galvanized steel is bolted to a 1.5-metre reinforced concrete base (108 feet wide and 72 feet height).

The flag weighing 60 Kgs took 8 minutes to be hauled to the mast with a winch, when the Chief Minister operated with a remote. The state government which took the Tricolour hoisting as very prestigious, is at loggerheads with Airports Authority of India to obtain necessary permissions.
The Chief Minister announced that the flag will become a part and parcel of Telangana heritage. Officials have procured five flags. Once hoisted, the flag will remain there only to be brought down once a month for inspection. Speaker Madhusudhanachari, Ministers – Nayani, Indrakaran Reddy, Talasani and Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma also attended the event.
