Three Indian American convicted in Visa fraud scam

Three Indian Americans have been sentenced by the US court for Visa fraud. The sentence includes six Jail Term and home confinement. All three accused Suresh Hiranandaney, Lalit Chabria, and Anita Chabria are relatives.

The accused were running Micropower Career Institute (MCI), or the Institute for Health Education (IHE) which offers vocational, language, and other classes to domestic students whose tuition was partially covered by Department of Education, and foreign students. The US court found them guilty in exploiting the student financial-aid fraud scheme through which they defrauded the Department of Education of $1 million in grant funds.

The court ordered them to pay $7,440,000 to the US from the incomes of their student visa fraud, and pay $1 million as compensation to Department of Education for losses from their student financial aid fraud.
