Popular Newspaper in United States, Newyork Times has come under severe criticism for a cartoon published on the occasion of India’s Mangalyaan success. The cartoon which showcased a man wearing a turban and a dhoti, dragging a cow along and knocking on the door of the ‘Elite Space Club’, portrayed India in a very poor light has drawn criticism from the Indian readers of the Newspaper there.
The cartoon was seen more as a racial attack on Indians and pushed the Newspaper to issue an explanation. Finally the editor of the Newspaper, Andrew Rosenthal came forward with an apology. He tried to clarify that the intention of the cartoonist was not to portray India in poor light but to explain how Space Exploration is no longer an Elite club. One more saddest part of this episode is the racial abuses hurled on Indians on the Newspaper’s Facebook page by US residents for making remarks or comments in their native language.
