BJP has announced contesting in Badvel By-election despite the fact that Janasena has announced quitting to support the Late MLA’s wife. TDP has also announced not contesting the election. That means only Congress and BJP are left in the race along with the ruling party.
BJP’s Somu Veerraju tried to be heroic by contesting the election but finds himself cornered after TDP backing out. If BJP contests and gets a paltry number of votes, naturally that will highlight the plight of the party. If TDP is in the race, the media attention will be on that party.
But now, the complete focus will be on BJP’s vote share. Given the fact that the party is struggling to field a candidate, they may well lose their deposit. It can be big trouble for Somu Veerraju and the BJP after losing a deposit in the Tirupati by-election.
BJP leaders are now feeling that they should have followed Pawan Kalyan and stayed away from the contest. In the 2019 elections, BJP and Janasena’s partner – BSP contested in Badvel and lost their deposits. BSP polled less than 1% votes and BJP had got less than 0.5% votes.
