Sucharita’s Shift: Prattipadu to Tadikonda?

Mekathoti Sucharita

It is known that the former Home Minister and Prathipadu MLA, Mekathoti Sucharita, is not willing to contest the next election. It has been more than six months since she visited her own constituency.

There is information that she will not enter the constituency if she decides not to contest from Prathipadu. She is also facing opposition from her own party for some reasons.

Despite her naturally soft demeanor, Sucharita has faced criticism from local leaders of the YSRCP for not being able to control the misconduct of her younger brothers who obstruct her position.

There have been occasions when leaders, especially from Prattipadu belonging to the CM’s community, openly expressed their dissatisfaction. Due to this, there was a campaign at one stage suggesting that she might stay away from politics.

However, it is reported that the party leadership has compelled her to re-contest, given her longstanding belief in the party and her willingness to spend a significant amount on election expenses from her own resources.

Chief Minister Jagan recently appointed Sucharita’s husband, Dayasagar, a retired Income Tax Department officer and a YSRCP supporter, as the Managing Director of the Machilipatnam Port to persuade her to contest.

It is learned that Sucharita Thadikonda, who initially thought contesting again under these circumstances was not feasible, has recently conveyed her willingness to Chief Minister Jagan to contest. Moreover, with Dr. Undavalli Sridevi, who previously contested and won for the YSRCP, leaving the party, Sucharita sees an opportunity to seek that constituency.

Leaders suggest that she is exploring another constituency as she realizes the challenges of winning again from Prathipadu, where she faces opposition within her own party, and other factors are not in her favor. The TDP has already gained strength in that constituency due to opposition to the government.

Furthermore, the YSRCP’s chances of victory have diminished with the entry of Jana Sena into the alliance. Although Sucharita won once on behalf of Congress and twice on behalf of YCP from Prathipadu, she could not establish control over the constituency.
