After the United States and China, India holds the record of having maximum number of billionaires. This was revealed in a report of China-based luxury publishing group Huran Report. India was behind Russia and Britain in the earlier lists. However the economic slow down in those countries in the last one year prompted the shuffle in the list and changed India’s position.
According to the report, there are 97 Indian billionaires who are worth at least one billion dollars while Russia only house 93 of them. India was in the fifth position in the list last year behind the United Kingdom. However the overall wealth of billionaires dropped by 10% in part because of a decline in growth of the London Stock Exchange.
One more interesting mention in the report is that 5% of India’s super-wealthy are self-made, but with a helping hand from parents, while 9% inherited a small business and grew it big time. Mukesh Ambani of Reliance is the richest Indian according to the report.
