Jagan Challenges to Resign, Will He?

YSRCP leader YS Jagan recently made strong comments regarding Assembly proceedings. He stated that if action is taken against MLAs for not attending the Assembly, all YSRCP MLAs and MPs would resign and force elections.

Jagan said that even if opposition status is not granted, the party is not given clarity on speaking time. He added that he will attend the Assembly if given time to raise public issues. Initially, he insisted on opposition leader status, but now he focuses on allotted time.

As per protocol, Jagan, not being the leader of opposition, will get the same time as any MLA. Still, he remains firm on his position. He has warned MLAs and MPs that they will resign if time is not provided, surprising many in his party.

This move could be counterproductive. YSRCP has 11 MLAs and 4 MPs. If they resign, elections may not be triggered since the Chandrababu Naidu government holds a majority from the 2024 elections.

Already, several leaders have left YSRCP after the 2024 elections. Analysts believe that if Jagan continues making such comments, more members may desert him, potentially weakening the party further.
