YSRCP leader Arjun Reddy has been arrested in Gudivada. The arrest is linked to a case registered in 2024 over objectionable social media posts.
According to the case details, Arjun Reddy allegedly morphed pictures of CM Chandrababu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and IT Minister Lokesh. These images were later shared on social media platforms.
Police officials had recently issued notices to Arjun Reddy. He appeared for inquiry on Friday, following which he was arrested on the spot.
During the previous government, several YSRCP leaders were active on social media. Many of them allegedly targeted then opposition leaders with personal attacks.
While political criticism is common, personal abuse has drawn strong criticism. The Chandrababu government had earlier promised strict action against those misusing social media under the guise of politics.
After coming to power, the present government has begun taking legal action against abusers. Officials say the process is being carried out strictly as per law.
Apart from the social media wing, several YSRCP leaders are accused of circulating objectionable material online. These actions are believed to have contributed to Jagan’s downfall in 2024.
