YS Jagan Mohan Reddy finalized the three candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Normally, the YSR Congress should get all three berths but Jagan antagonized many MLAs by refusing them tickets or changing their seats. So, they are likely to turn Rebels and vote for the TDP candidate if the party chooses to field one.
The candidates are YV Subba Reddy, Meda Raghunatha Reddy, and Golla Baburao.
An SC is selected as the third candidate strategically. The MLAs who will stick to the party for sure will obviously vote for the Reddys. The Rebels will be given the SC candidate and they may or may not vote.
That means the two Reddy candidates will win comfortably and the SC candidate’s victory is purely luck.
In the worst-case scenario, Jagan can have his community men win while the SC candidate will lose. YSR Congress will then blame the Opposition Party for defeating a Dalit. But TDP will neutralize that by fielding an SC or BC candidate.
Speaker is hurriedly disqualifying the defected MLAs but there are so many rebels who can turn into a headache for Jagan.
The Three Rajya Sabha seats are becoming vacant as CM Ramesh, Kanakamedala Ravindrakumar, and Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy retire. The polling will happen on the 27th of this month.
TDP has yet to decide whether to put a candidate or not. From TDP’s perspective, if put, the candidate has to win for sure and that will set the right agenda for the upcoming elections.
