America Prefers “Indian” Indians Over American Ones

Indians Over American Ones

An engineer of Indian origin found himself in a conundrum as he got laid off in favor of “Indian” Indians. X user @AlphaFox78 posted a video on the platform describing how he got fired from a job, stating that his employers wanted “cheaper” labor so his job would be handed to some person in India. On his protest, he was given the answer, ‘No, no, no, you don’t get it. We are getting rid of you. We are moving the job to India, where it will be done cheaper.

Reacting to this, the user aptly shared his emotions about how Americans must feel about “Indians taking over their jobs.” There are a number of things that can be taken from this case. The user himself must have faced the same allegation of “stealing” jobs, as it is a prevalent concern for many Americans. It is quite racist in its own right for the Americans, as it is a result of their own hubris. Their capitalist corporations are always looking for exploitation of workers, and the immigrants are getting the shorter end of the stick even though they are taking over the jobs.

Yet another point of concern is how little protection Indian authorities and laws provide against exploitation. Indians, even though they are on par with the required skills as Americans, are treated as cheap labor. Being inviting towards the MNCs is one thing, but there should be safeguards against the workers being taken for granted in terms of payment and recognition.

As for the engineer who was laid off, an online debate ensued under his post. With people saying “he was too Americanized for the company to think of him as Indian” and that “he should work on his accent.”
