Aussie Player Broke IPL Auction Record Twice!

IPL Auction 2024

The 2024 IPL Auction is underway in Dubai, and there have been some record-breaking deals involving Australians. All-rounder Cameron Green, a member of the World Cup winning team became the most expensive Australian cricketer ever bought at an IPL player auction when he was snapped up by Mumbai Indians for 17.5 crore That price broke the previous record for an Australian player in IPL auction, that of Aussie skipper Pat Cummins who moved to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2020.

Green’s all-round ability with the bat and ball made him an attractive target for Mumbai, one of the heavyweights in this competition. He will be joined by Tim David, who took his biggest IPL auction deal as an Australian at 1.53 crore to Mumbai and Jhye Richardson whose price tag jumped all the way up around 2.5 crore for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

But not all Aussies had a successful auction this year. The five established Australian stars who were unable to attract any offers from a franchise included Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Aaron Finch. Smith, who was named player of the tournament while Australia took part in that edition’s World Cup campaign will have to wait for another opportunity to play India.

After their victory in the World Cup, some Aussies have also had a price spike at the IPL auction 2024. The astonishing size of Cameron Green’s deal shows that he is one of the best all-rounders in world cricket, and has the potential to be a global star. He has proven himself at RCB that he can adapt to different conditions and formats, consistently performs well. Jhye Richardson’s impressive show with RCB suggests that he can be a genuine game-changer for his pace and swing.
