The World Cup final will begin in a few hours and by midnight we’ll have the next winner. The excitement and nervousness has reached its zenith given India’s undefeated performance and Australia’s records in past World Cups.
To calm us down, fans turned into memers who are having a field day trying to encompass all the different aspects of the World Cup with humour. One such aspect is Dhoni, the captain who won it all.
The internet is full of memes trying to relate India’s undefeated streak with ‘Thala’ aka MS Dhoni. Some of the memes are just absurd while some are directed at fans.
One meme added the digits of the year the World Cup is held i.e. 2+0+2+3= 7. Since ‘7’ is Dhoni’s jersey number, so India will win the world cup.
In another meme, a fan pointed out Shami’s 7-wicket haul and related it again with Dhoni’s jersey number.
Another meme on India’s win against New Zealand by 70 runs highlighted the ‘7’ in ‘70.
All in all, some of the memes are just far-fetched and not funny at all. But, the popularity of them just proves that Dhoni is still one of the biggest, years later his retirement.
