In a rather disappointing event, the mayor of London has rejected the request for a structure similar to Las Vegas’ sphere in the British capital.
While it might have proven to be the biggest tourist attraction in Vegas’ history, the 90 metre tall, dazzling sphere is now unlikely to come to London. The company with the structure’ rights, ‘MSG’ had offered to build one in Stratford, East London.
The dream offer has now however been put down by the city’s mayor, stating that the venue which would have been vividly illuminated at night will result in an unacceptable negative impact on local residents.
What makes Khan’s recent refusal shocking is that back in 2018 he had shown great enthusiasm and support for the project when it first started saying that it would be great to welcome another world-class venue to the capital and would confirm London’s position as a music powerhouse further boosting the city’s thriving night-time economy.
Since the announcement, people have had negative reactions expressing their disappointment over the dream failing to become a reality. One social platform ‘X’ user, in support of the Mayor’s decision stated that a structure such as the sphere is feasible only in Las Vegas as it is already always illuminated by lights 24 x 7.
