Hyderabad is known to have one of the culturally rich culinary choices for any city in India, but it appears that this prestige is when it comes to food hygiene.
According to the latest findings by the food safety authority of India, Hyderabad is ranked at the bottom of the chain when it comes to food safety and hygiene.
With nearly 75,000 food spots in the city, just 361 eateries, which is under 2% of licensed ones have earned official hygiene scores. This is a shockingly poor number for a city with such which cultural history.
It turns out that metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai are ranking much above Hyderabad in this category. This is not a good outcome for Hyderabad, which has some of the hearty eaters all over India.
Also, it must be noted that Hyderabad is one of the very few cities that attract tourists every year just through its food spread and this needs to be upheld with hygiene standards as well, apart from appetising choices.
In accordance with this, the food safety authorities in Hyderabad have been cracking down on major food outlets across the city. This needs to be enforced in an even stronger manner in the days to follow.
