There was a time when India depended heavily on foreign countries like Russia for its defense supply. Over the period of time, it has invested generously in the research and development of weapons and today we are also exporting weapons to other countries. All this couldn’t have been possible without the continuous efforts of the research and innovation teams including scientists and engineers.
However, weapons development is a very sensitive area and no security lapse can be tolerated. An engineer who worked for BrahMos Aerospace limited has been sentenced to life imprisonment for spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI.
The sentence was served by a Nagpur court which found the accused guilty of sharing sensitive information with the ISI. BrahMos is responsible for some flagship projects related to missiles in India.
The man had worked for more than four years at BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Limited. The ISI has had a record of trapping many Indians into spying through various operating methods including honey traps. The convict will spend the rest of his life in a prison for his involvement in leaking secret information.
