Traveling back to India for celebrations proved costly for an NRI as jewelry worth lakhs got stolen midway. The 44 year old NRI who is a software engineer came to India to attend a family function when this incident happened. The man claims that the jewelry got stolen during his journey from London to Mumbai.
The software engineer has registered a police complaint with the Wakad police. According to him, he and his family boarded a flight from London on the 9th of December. He handed over 4 bags to the airline and one of them contained 152 grams of gold jewelry. The bags were not locked apparently because of rules of airport authority.
Upon reaching Mumbai on the 10th, his bags were not there. The airline took notice of it and told him his luggage would be returned to him at his residence in Wakad once it had been found.
The bags ultimately reached him through a courier service on the 11th. But surprisingly, the jewelry was missing from the bag. The case was notified to the police and an FIR has been lodged under section 379 of the IPC. It is not clear when the jewelry went missing exactly. The total cost of jewelry stolen is estimated to be ₹7.6 lakhs.
