Modern Mahabharat: Man Loses Wife In Gambling

Gambling Loses Wife

We are familiar with the stories of Mahabharata that have been a part of Indian mythology for centuries. We have heard the stories of Dyut Sabha, in which the Pandavas lost all their wealth to Duryodhana, and eventually even lost Draupadi, their wife, in a game of dice. Unbelievably, a similar incident occurred in Delhi where a man, after losing all his wealth, also lost his wife in gambling.

The story revolves around a woman who had been married to her husband for three years. He went to Delhi for work, only for her to later discover that he, supposedly employed in a private firm, was spending all his money on gambling. One day, after losing everything and accumulating substantial debt, he abandoned his wife with money lenders. He promised to retrieve her after repaying the money.

The wife, kept hostage, fortunately found a phone and called her brother, who rescued her by paying a sum of 2 lakh. Since then, the police have been searching for the husband, who seems to have eloped.

There can be situations where a person feels helpless, but using one’s wife as an asset with someone is wrong on so many levels. Such an individual must be held accountable and punished for such actions.
