Don’t we all love a big-fat-Indian wedding trope in cinema? It is incomplete without the band-baja, scrumptious food, wearing beautiful outfits, and having a blast. But it becomes a million dollar gala when it comes to Ambani’s. The Radhika-Anant wedding has broken all past records.
With Bollywood style stage production, celebrity performances, theme parties, jungle safaris and what not, the pre-wedding itself was rumoured to cost 12 billion rupees. And now the grand wedding has taken social media by a storm where people are shocked to see money being spent like water. Even water is scarce these days!
Sadly, it all becomes a bit too much when the traffic of the entire city of Mumbai is diverted just to accommodate this event. Writer and Comedian Varun Grover took a jibe on the public notice released by Mumbai police on traffic diversion because of the Ambani wedding. He called it, “Monarchy creating anarchy” on X.
It makes us wonder is there really a need for all this? While celebrating a wedding with all the ‘dhoom-dhaam’ is their freedom of choice, one should also consider how it might affect normal people of the city if the roads are blocked for an entire day. It shows the state of blatant disregard for the common masses just because a few ultra-rich people have to put their royalty on a display.
