Neeraj Chopra has added another gold to his already shining trophy cabinet. The Indian Olympian clinched the gold medal at the Javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championship, Budapest.
With this win Neeraj becomes the first-ever Indian to win a gold at the championship. In a nail biting competition from athletes around the world, he threw his best at the event in the second attempt with 88.17m. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Czech Republic’s Jalub Vadlejch won silver and bronze medals respectively.
During the award ceremony, Nadeem didn’t have Pakistani flag, to which Neeraj responded by inviting him to join him under the tricolour for the photoshoot.
This win not only adds to Neeraj’s personal accolades but establishes him as the ambassador of India on the global athletics stage.
Neeraj has now won a total of two medals at the championship. Last time he won a silver medal.
