A shocking incident of a Delhi Police constable being hit by an SUV and flung into the air was caught on CCTV in the Connaught Place area on Tuesday night.
The constable, identified as Rajesh Kumar, was on vehicle check duty when the SUV rammed into him and tried to flee the scene. Kumar suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is said to be stable.
The driver of the SUV, identified as Rakesh Singh, was later arrested by the police and booked for rash driving, causing hurt and endangering life.
Singh reportedly told the police that he was drunk and did not see the constable standing near the barricade. He also claimed that he panicked and sped away after hitting him.
The incident has raised questions about the safety of police personnel on duty and the menace of drunk driving in the city. Despite strict laws and awareness campaigns, many people continue to flout traffic rules and endanger lives.
The police have appealed to the public to follow road safety norms and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
