Dream Russia Job Ends in Coffin for Indian worker

A young man from Punjab who travelled to Russia for work returned home in a coffin nearly eight months later. His family said he had left India hoping to secure a stable job and support his loved ones. Instead, tragedy awaited far from home.

Relatives alleged that the promised employment never materialised after his arrival. Reports suggested he was pushed towards the war front instead of regular work. The heartbreaking development shocked many people across India and sparked serious concern about overseas job offers.

Similar cases have surfaced earlier in other countries. In Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, several Indians were promised office or IT roles. After reaching there, many were reportedly forced into illegal online activities under pressure.

However, the situation linked to Russia appears more alarming. During wartime, demand for soldiers rises sharply. Some reports indicate that a few foreign workers may have been pressured to assist military operations instead of doing the jobs they were promised.

The Indian government raised the matter strongly with the Russian government. Authorities in Russia said action was being taken against those responsible for fake job promises. Efforts are also being made to bring affected Indians safely back home.

At the same time, caution remains essential while seeking employment abroad. Proper verification of agents and job offers is critical. When someone leaves home chasing a better future but never returns, the grief for families lasts a lifetime.
