A recent incident from the Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh proved this connection. A young man had posted on Instagram claiming he had consumed poison and planned to end his life. The post triggered Meta’s alert system.
The youth wrote “I am going to die today”, and the platform recognised it as a high risk sign of self harm. Meta reportedly notified authorities immediately. Police acted quickly and managed to save him in time.
This is not the first time technology has helped prevent suicide attempts. Each case reminds us of the importance of mental health awareness, privacy, and accountability. While tech can assist, emotional support and open communication remain most important.
Even beyond algorithms and alerts, the goal stays the same. People need to feel seen and supported before things reach a breaking point. Technology can help, but human care matters most.
