The BCCI decided to honor one of the biggest contributors to Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar with a statue of his own at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Wankhede was the home ground of the legendary cricketer and he had spent most of his early career in Mumbai. BCCI unveiled a grand statue of Master Blaster at the time when the biggest celebration of cricket, the Cricket World Cup is being hosted in India. His statue was unveiled just before India’s game against Sri Lanka played on the 2nd of November at Wankhede.
It was a special occasion and fans were happy to see the new statue dedicated to their favourite. But very soon, a user at X pointed out a significant flaw in the statue. On closely observing the statue, the user could find close resemblance with the Australian cricketer Steve Smith. To make this evident, the user shared a number of photos of the statue and one of the Australian cricketer to allow people to make this comparison.
Users then trolled the new statue as a black version of Steve Smith. One could say that the statue looks much more like Smith than Sachin himself. The sculptor chose a younger look of Sachin for the statue but the final result didn’t came off as the creators would’ve desired. The post on X has been widely circulated and it is becoming a little embarrassing for BCCI.
