Why ‘Uninstall BookMyShow’ Trending?

Uninstall BookMyShowCanadian Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, known as Shubh, has found himself in the midst of controversy ahead of his ‘Still Rollin India Tour’ in 12 major cities, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and New Delhi.

The trouble arose when Shubh shared a distorted map of India on his Instagram story, omitting Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Northeastern states, alongside a message that read “Pray for Punjab.”

Furthermore, Shubh’s social media post coincided with the Punjab Police’s search for Khalistani terrorist Amritpal Singh, leading to the arrest of some of Shubh’s followers.

This action led to allegations by the BJP, who accused Shubh of supporting Khalistan and misrepresenting India’s territorial integrity. BJP has demanded the cancellation of Shubh’s performances and the registration of an FIR against him.

In response to the controversy, a social media trend, ‘Uninstall BookMyShow,’ emerged, with netizens urging the ticket booking platform to stop selling tickets for Shubh’s concerts in India. Many users expressed their displeasure, calling for BookMyShow to take a stand for India and questioning the platform’s business ethics in light of the controversy.

Notably, Shubh garnered global fame with many hit songs. However, in the wake of the controversy, Kohli, along with cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, unfollowed the singer on Instagram. Electronics brand boAt withdrew its sponsorship from Shubh’s tour, distancing itself from the controversy.
