BCCI Rejects Rohit’s Last Match Talk, What’s Next?

Rohit Sharma during England ODI series

Speculation over Rohit Sharma‘s ODI future has intensified ahead of the third ODI against England at Lord’s. However, the BCCI has dismissed reports claiming that the match will be his last in the format.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI that there has been no discussion within the board about Rohit Sharma retiring after the England series. He denied reports suggesting that the Lord’s ODI would be the veteran opener’s farewell match.

The clarification comes after media reports claimed that the selectors had informed Rohit Sharma he was not part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The reports also suggested that the team management wanted to prepare younger players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, for the future.

While dismissing the retirement rumours, Saikia did not comment on whether Rohit Sharma remains in India’s long-term plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. That has kept the debate over his future alive.

Former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta also shared his views, saying Rohit appeared mentally uncertain during his innings in Cardiff.

For now, the BCCI has made its position clear on one point. According to Devajit Saikia, Rohit Sharma is not retiring after the Lord’s ODI. However, questions about his role in India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup remain unanswered.
