Dhoni CSK Journey Not Over Yet? CEO Drops Big Hint

MS Dhoni with Chennai Super Kings

The future of M. S. Dhoni with Chennai Super Kings continues to remain one of the biggest discussion points in the IPL. After missing the entire IPL 2026 season because of a calf injury, fresh comments from CSK management have now created new speculation around his future.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently hinted that Dhoni could continue with the franchise in some capacity in the coming years. According to him, the team would always want Dhoni to stay associated with CSK, whether as a player, mentor, or coach.

Kasi Viswanathan also clarified that the final decision completely depends on Dhoni himself. He stated that the franchise sees Dhoni as a permanent part of CSK and would be happy to have him continue in any possible role.

Dhoni did not play throughout IPL 2026 due to ongoing injury concerns. Although he attended CSK’s final home match at Chepauk, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad later confirmed that the veteran cricketer was still not fully fit during the season.

For the first time since the IPL began in 2008, Dhoni missed an entire season. His absence was strongly felt as CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive year during IPL 2026.

The five-time IPL champions finished eighth in the points table after winning six matches and losing eight games. The disappointing season has also increased discussions regarding the future direction of the franchise.

There is growing speculation around the future of head coach Stephen Fleming after another difficult campaign for CSK. Reports suggest the franchise could eventually consider Dhoni for a larger role behind the scenes.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also supported the idea of Dhoni becoming a mentor or coach for CSK in the future. Many cricket experts believe his experience and leadership could continue benefiting the team even after retirement.

However, Dhoni’s importance to CSK goes far beyond strategy or coaching responsibilities. For many years, he has remained the biggest symbol of the franchise and one of the main reasons behind the team’s massive fan following.

CSK supporters regularly travel across different states to watch Dhoni play at Chepauk and other stadiums around India. Even during difficult seasons, fans continue filling stadiums mainly because of his presence and emotional connection with the franchise.

His absence during IPL 2026 not only affected CSK’s on-field performance but also changed the overall atmosphere around the tournament. From ticket demand to crowd energy, Dhoni continues to remain one of the biggest attractions in IPL history.

Whether he returns as a player or joins the franchise in another role, it is clear that CSK still considers Dhoni the heart of the team and an important part of its future plans.
