The Karnataka State Cricket Association has named a stand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium after Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble. The move honours their immense contribution to Indian cricket as players and coaches.
Fans welcomed the decision with enthusiasm. Many felt that these legends had not always received public recognition on the scale of icons like Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. The naming of the stand was seen as long overdue respect.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dravid thanked the KSCA warmly. He described Chinnaswamy as his second home. He recalled both joyful and painful memories shared with Kumble at the venue.
Dravid said the stadium shaped his journey. He noted that he and Kumble spent more time there than at home. He added that the ground gave him everything he is today.
The KSCA has received widespread praise for the initiative. However, a section of Kohli supporters raised questions online. They referred to past disagreements between Kumble and Kohli during Kumble’s tenure as coach.
Despite online debates, the achievements of Dravid and Kumble remain unquestioned. Both played a key role in shaping the ICT into a competitive force. Honouring them at Chinnaswamy feels like a fitting tribute to two true giants of Indian cricket.
