Shardul Thakur’s recent statement regarding him not being able to bowl a few more overs due to the ‘captain’s call’ has created a storm on the internet.
Subtly putting the blame on Captain Gill, Shardul had said, “Giving bowling is captain’s call. Not in my hands. Captain decides when to give. I could have bowled two overs more today but that is captain’s call. Difficult to find rhythm but I try and use my experience.”
While Shardul may have expected some kind of public sympathy from this statement, what happened was completely the opposite.
The public bashed him hard, reminding him of his inability to stop the leakage of runs at the rate of 7 per over, which should be and is being considered as disastrous in test cricket.
Shardul has been largely ineffective, as the English batters have been able to hit the ball for fours and sixes in his overs.
The public has raised strong objections to his inclusion in the team, asking whether a proper pacer or spinner would have been better in his place.
With the 4th test match still going, it will be interesting to see if Shardul can redeem himself today with the ball.
