The third day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo has ended. Sri Lanka are 265/8 in their first innings.
Sri Lanka had resumed Day 3 at 8/2 after rain ended the second day’s play early. Prasidh Krishna gave India the first breakthrough of the day, dismissing Kamil Mishara for 19. He then dismissed Kamindu Mendis for 32.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Mendis had tried to build a partnership, but Krishna’s second wicket put India back in control.
Sri Lanka reached 130/4 at lunch. After lunch, Manav Suthar dismissed captain Dhananjaya de Silva for 8. Ravindra Jadeja then removed Sooriyabandara for 80.
Suthar picked up another wicket as India continued to put pressure on Sri Lanka. But the lower order did not give up. Sonal Dinusha played a strong innings and remained unbeaten on 85, while Lahiru Kumara was unbeaten on 8 at the close of play.
Sri Lanka ended the day at 265/8, still 238 runs behind India. They now need 39 more runs to avoid the follow on, while India need only two wickets to finish the innings.
Can Sri Lanka get those 39 runs on Day 4, or will India’s bowlers finish the job?
