India declared their first innings at 503/9 on Day 2 of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
The big moment of the day came when Dhruv Jurel completed his century. Jurel celebrated in style. The wicketkeeper batter showed his biceps after reaching century, with “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” written on his arm.
Jurel remained unbeaten on 115 off 177 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes. His century helped India cross the 500 run mark before the declaration.
Rishabh Pant also returned to bat after retiring hurt on Day 1. He scored 63 runs, hitting six fours and two sixes.
India later declared and Sri Lanka came out to bat. Their start was poor. Prasidh Krishna dismissed Lahiru Udara for 1 before Manav Suthar removed Prabath Jayasuriya for 2.
Sri Lanka were 8/2 after three overs when rain returned. Rain then kept interrupting the game, allowing only a few overs of Sri Lanka’s innings. Kamil Mishara will now resume the innings on Day 3.
Asitha Fernando was Sri Lanka’s best bowler, taking 4/106 in 29 overs. He dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Saransh Jain.
India lead by 495 runs and have already taken two wickets. Now Sri Lanka face a huge task on Day 3. Can they start closing the massive lead, or will India’s bowling attack make them fall apart?
