Karn Sharma has announced his retirement from international and Indian domestic cricket at 38, ending a career that included only four India appearances but four IPL titles.

Karn’s breakthrough came during the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season when he took 21 wickets in three matches.

He played his only Test against Australia in Adelaide, taking four wickets in the match. Despite, he never played for India again. The biggest part of Karn’s career came in the IPL.

He won the trophy with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, Mumbai Indians in 2017 and Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and 2021.

His 2016-18 run was even more special. Karn became the first player to win three straight IPL titles with three different teams.

His domestic record is also strong. Karn finished with 270 wickets in 97 first class matches, 153 wickets in 123 List A games and 168 wickets in 191 T20 matches.

He announced that he will play his final game on August 25 before moving towards coaching and other cricket related roles.

Four India team matches may look small. But four IPL trophies tell the real story of Karn Sharma’s career.
