Although the age of AI has been massively beneficial for the human race, it is not to say that it does not have its own demerits.
The demerits reared their ugly heads after Sunday’s match between PBKS and RR, where a morphed photo of PBKS owner Priety Zinta meeting with young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi went viral.
Preity could be seen shaking hands with Vaibhav in one photo. It was a second photo that stirred up the internet as well as the national media. That photo revealed Preity giving Vaibhav a hug on the field, and as usual, people went bonkers about it.
Things got so out of hand that the actress had to come forward and post about it on social media, letting everyone know that the image was morphed.
Explaining on social media, she wrote, “This is a morphed image and fake news. Am so surprised now news channels are also using morphed images and featuring them as news items!”
Fact-checking something has almost become non-existent in our media. Information is passed on unverified and spread to millions of people without a second thought about how it might affect someone.
As a society, we need to be more self-observant to ensure that we live in a world where facts and rumours don’t go hand in hand.
