Rajasthan Royals have been sold in a landmark deal ahead of IPL 2026. The franchise has changed ownership in what is now the most expensive sale in the league’s history.
According to reports, a consortium led by Kal Somani has acquired 100 percent stake in the team. The group also includes Rob Walton and Shields Hamp.
The new ownership will take control after the conclusion of IPL 2026. The reported deal value stands at 1.63 billion dollars, which is around Rs 15,280 crores.
This makes Rajasthan Royals the first IPL franchise to cross the 1 billion dollar valuation mark. The sale highlights the rapid financial growth of the league.
Reports suggest that Royal Challengers Bengaluru could soon surpass this record. Their potential sale is expected to touch around 2 billion dollars.
For comparison, Lucknow Super Giants were bought by Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group in 2022 for 940 million dollars.
Similarly, Gujarat Titans saw the Torrent Group acquire a 67 percent stake for Rs 5,020 crores. These deals reflect the rising value of IPL teams.
Kal Somani had already invested in Rajasthan Royals in 2021. The franchise was earlier owned by Manoj Badale’s Emerging Media Ventures.
Rajasthan Royals were among the original eight IPL teams. They were bought for just 67 million dollars before the inaugural season in 2008.
This sale marks the first time an IPL franchise has changed ownership through the BCCI’s official bidding process. It underlines the growing commercial scale of the league.
