Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has come forward in support of the new skipper Shubman Gill, emphasising the need for selectors to show their trust in him, both in tests as well as in ODIs.
Shastri emphasised the need for Gill to be a permanent member in the squad as he said, “Let Shubman remain in the team for 3 years, no matter the series. I think he’ll show a solid performance.”
Shastri’s words are not wrong. With so many young players in the Indian team, what India needs right now is stability. Stability to stay with one captain in tests and to rally the support behind the very captain.
If done right, this can massively increase the qualities of captaincy in Gill, potentially turning him into the next big thing in Indian cricket.
It will be interesting to see if GG and the selectors will move forward to show their unbreakable trust in the new captain for a reasonable period to give the Indian team some semblance of stability.
