Yesterday’s match between LSG and RCB was nothing short of a nail-biting thriller. Although the match looked to be in LSG’s bag comfortably, thanks to an incredible innings by Rishabh Pant, Jitesh Sharma came out as a much-needed saviour, scoring 85 runs off 33 balls to make sure RCB made it to the top.
But Pant’s fabulous innings didn’t go completely unnoticed. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka put out a social media post acknowledging Pant, with ‘Pantastic’ written as the caption.
However, angry LSG fans and trolls took to social media to launch a brutal campaign against Rishabh Pant, blaming him for the pitiful state of their franchise despite having arguably the best openers this season.
One user on social media said, “Fantastic in last match only. Even I would have scored a century if given so many chances.”
Another trolled Pant as he wrote, “Hope Pant continues with the same performance next year as well. Making sure his team gets eliminated and then scoring a hundred at the end.”
These comments highlight the anger LSG fans seem to have harboured against Rishabh Pant. And their anger is not completely unjustified.
Pant has been nothing but a burden for this team, despite the fact that they had explosive openers like Marsh and Pooran right there doing their best.
With public anger at an all-time high, it will be interesting to see if Sanjiv Goenka will retain Pant for next year or if he will suffer the same fate as KL Rahul.
